It was the winter of 1987 in Courmayeur when two young friends from Milan, transformed a simple but ingenious idea into a real and authentic business. During a skiing break they noticed a skier who planted his skis in the snow, rested his ski poles on his ski bindings, then wrapped and buttoned his jacket around the skis, creating a chair with a backrest. The shape was that of a beach chair, only that instead of sand… there was snow! Once returned to Milan, the duo created a practical, easy to assemble, pocket-sized, cold-resistant and economical product – “AMAKA SKI”.

Since the success was so immediate, the product was born before the brand. The two men had to find a simple name that had to be recognisable, impactful and easy enough to overcome language barriers. In the end the two young entrepreneurs created a new brand from the fusion of the first syllables of their surnames: Bressi and Cannilla. On the 11th of April 1988 BREKKA was founded.

In the 90’s the brand BREKKA participated in ISPO tradeshows and managed to extend exports to Japan, Korea, USA and Canada. This success brought the necessity to develop an official logo. They opted for the simple design that highlights the Italian origins and identity by integrating in the letter E of the name a red and green lines both originating from the national flag. This symbol is supposed to remember the importance of thinking outside the box and to live life courageously.

BREKKA is headquartered in Milan, although its showrooms can be found in many other countries and regions. Its team consists of young, highly motivated professional who manage style, product development, marketing and commercial expansion. From its very first season large Italian chains claimed the BREKKA product, over the years they have been joined by many other important international retailers, to name a few: La Rinascente and COIN in Italy, Galeries Lafayette in France, KaDeWe in Germany, Harrods in England.
